Participating in the 35th Economic Forum in Karpacz, Poland, Gürkan Akcaer unexpectedly reconnected at the forum with Ivan, a volunteer from North Macedonia whom he had hosted back in 2008 as part of the EVS (European Voluntary Service) program.
Ivan spoke highly of his volunteering experience with System and Generation in Ankara, sharing how it had transformed his life. Following that journey, he went on to build a career in North Macedonia, where he currently works in the communications field and has a regional expert position, within WeBalkans - the biggest EU’s communication programme for the Western Balkans.
The time spent volunteering and learning in Ankara for him was of big value, as it was one of his first international experiences. An eye-opener, the time spent as a volunteer helped him see the world differently, by connecting with other volunteers from all around Europe back then.
We are deeply delighted to witness, quite by chance in Poland, yet another example of how the Erasmus program’s volunteering initiatives contribute to young people's careers, well-being, and personal development. We wish our valuable volunteer, Ivan, continued success in his career!
