"Blue Horizon: Unlocking the Potential of Blue Carbon for Climate Resilience"

As the world prepares for the critical COP31 agenda, the preservation of our oceans has emerged as one of the most vital frontiers in the fight against climate change. "Blue Horizon" is an immersive Youth Exchange project hosted in the coastal beauty of Fethiye, Türkiye, designed to empower young people to become the next generation of ocean stewards. This project focuses on the transformative potential of Blue Carbon—the carbon sequestered by marine and coastal ecosystems—and explores how protecting these natural sinks is essential for achieving climate resilience.
Our programme brings together young people aged 13 to 30 to bridge the gap between academic research and grassroots climate advocacy. Throughout the exchange, participants will immerse themselves in the intersection of environmental science, local biodiversity, and global policy. A highlight of the project is a specialized conference organized in collaboration with a local university, where participants will engage directly with experts to discuss the crucial role of marine ecosystem restoration. Beyond the academic environment, the exchange offers hands-on field activities that allow participants to connect with Fethiye's unique coastal landscape, turning theoretical knowledge into practical understanding.
The "Blue Horizon" experience is built on the belief that youth voices are indispensable in climate action. By fostering a multidisciplinary environment, we aim to equip our participants with the communication skills, scientific literacy, and leadership tools needed to translate global COP31 goals into tangible local initiatives. Through workshops on youth advocacy and intercultural collaboration, participants will not only build a diverse network of like-minded environmentalists but also develop the confidence to lead initiatives that protect marine biodiversity. Ultimately, this project seeks to cultivate a new generation of "Ocean Guardians" who understand that the health of our planet is inextricably linked to the vitality of our oceans, inspiring them to lead the way toward a more sustainable and resilient future for all.
