On the 10th of December 2020 was held the 3rd European Youth Work Convention, a prestigious event for recognizing and strengthening youth work across Europe. Over 1000 participants joined the event, representatives of 50 different countries.
Following its participation to the Convention, Mr. Gurkan Akçaer was interviewed by a representative of Jugend für Europa (Youth for Europe), from the German National Agency of the Erasmus+ program, thanks to the Turkish National Agency.
From his over 15 years of experience in the field of youth work, Mr. Akçaer could offer an exhaustive overview on the main successes and strengths of the youth work sector in Turkey, analyze the main challenges for youth work at national level and local level, offer a set of recommendations for support from Europe to validate more and strengthen the youth work development in Turkey, reflect on the major opportunities for further growth and recognition of the sector, and contemplate on expectations towards the implementation of European Youth Work Agenda in the Bonn Process.
During the interview Mr. Akçaer stressed the importance of facilitating the motility of the youth workers, removing the barriers that can obstruct their essential services, and underlined the convenience of adopting and embracing digital tools (as through virtual online meetings) to empower youth despite any possible obstacle faced.
