PROJECT:

The Journey Today

“In the shoes of refugees” – Creating opportunities for young Europeans to learn about forced migration through offline simulation of refugee journeys and routes.Overall, the project aims at increasing awareness around the ever-increasing multiculturality of Europe, as well as bring attention to the challenges this multiculturality pauses for the region, as well as setting a stage for ways we dialogue on the solutions or general understanding of how we navigate this new context. We want to create awareness, as well as tolerance to our cultural diversity. The project’s span covers a great number of immediate and indirect target groups when the issue of migration is concerned and in other words, the project is meant for a great number of migrants and refugees who are supposed to protect and enliven their intangible cultural heritage as well as inhabitants of the host countries who are to be influenced by their interaction with the newcomers. Link.

VIRTUAL MUSEUM

This Virtual Cultural Heritage Museum is a source of information about people on the move. These are migrant and refugee stories from people who have decided to implant themselves in another country. Creating and developing the Virtual Cultural Heritage Museum allows us to further raise awareness about migration and our common cultural heritage. Here we list just some examples of this diversity that exists among us.

The Journey Today project results – an innovative contribution to public awareness about migration into Europe.

For the past 24 months, five organizations across four European countries (Denmark, Sweden, Türkiye and Greece), have been implementing the Journey project funded under the Erasmus+ program. The project has entailed developing innovative and creative ways in which the evolving global community can build awareness about migration and the need for empathy towards the inclusion of refugees and migrants. As the partners held their final project management meeting yesterday 30th January 2024, it is with the utmost privilege to announce the project’s key outputs that are all ready for public usage – all freely accessible here - https://www.thejourney.today/theproject/.

The outputs include:

-  The Fisherman's Eye : A comic book about the altruistic deeds of Kostas Pinteris -a nobel prize nominated fisherman- who was dedicated into saving drowning refugees in Skala Sykaminia Greece, at the height of the refugee crisis.

-  A virtual Heritage Museum – presenting a collection of portraits of refugees and other materials we have developed during the project implementation.

-  A Live Action Role Play – an immersive experience into the lives of refugees.

-  An AR version of the Journey Board game – giving the game extendibility and wider reach.

Please share these products with practitioners in your network to extend their accessibility and benefits.

The project is a partnership among @civil connections of Denmark, @Impact Unified of Sweden, @AddArt of Greece, and @System & Generation of Türkiye.
